Stuck in the middle with you? Wenger the scapegoat

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Following on from my last post, the other big story Arsenal this week concerns the fallout following Wenger’s heated question and answer meeting with shareholders which is said to have upset Wenger greatly. Wenger was faced with angered questions from disgruntled supporters and was forced to defend the value of his team.

Wenger has money to spend, but where should it be spent?

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Arsene Wenger confirmed last night to shareholders that there will be money to spend during the summer if he needs it. Wenger’s usual policy of signing prospects over experience has been questioned in the past but the signing of Andrei Arshavin in January went ‘against the grain’.

Keep the faith – All is not lost for Arsenal

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

As the dust settles on a disappointing exit for Arsenal from the Champions League, Arsenal are now again out of contention for any trophies for a fifth season running, and if you were to believe many Arsenal blogs and fans the sky is falling.

Well, I am here to tell you that there is no disgrace in the way Arsenal have performed with an injury depleted squad this season, and certainly reaching 2 semi-finals and securing Champions League football for next season is nothing to be ashamed of.

Arsenal’s Transfer window deadline signing…

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Was nobody.

Come on, give me Alonso!

Come on, give me Alonso!

Despite rumours surfacing that Arsenal had made late approaches for Alonso and Inler, the transfer deadline has now passed and Arsenal will be unable to make any further signings until January. It was another crazy deadline for the Premiership’s more cash-rich clubs, Man Utd finally got Berbatov, Spurs got Pavlyuchenko, Man City signed Robinho – Can you believe that one? I can’t; you could practically see the dollar signs in that poor, dumb fool’s eyes. Anything for the money, eh? (more…)

Inler is out of the running

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

After Saturday’s defeat at Fulham I’m sure you all are wondering, as I am, if Arsene Wenger is going to be signing a new midfielder for Arsenal. Reports today [1] suggest that one mooted prospect, Gokhan Inler of Udinese, has stated that he does not want to move to Arsenal.

Fabregas could be back for FC Twente match

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Just one more quick update before the Fulham game starts, there has been some encouraging news about Cesc Fabregas, who picked up a hamstring injury before the start of the season.

Arsene Wenger said that Fabregas was back in training, and while not ready for todays game against Fulham, could be ready for FC Twente’s visit to the Emirates in mid-week :

“He is doing very well in training.

While he is not likely to be involved on Saturday, he should be ready for the Champions League game on Wednesday night.

You know how important he is on the creative side of our game and you want him to be in the team, but we do not want to face a gamble for just one game and we have to be patient.

“We will have to asses him on Monday or Tuesday to see how big a gamble it will be to start him or not.”

Of course Fabregas’ contribution to Arsenal’s attacking presence cannot be understated, a fully fit Fabregas and the continual improvement of Van Persie are vital to our chances this season.
