Wenger has money to spend, but where should it be spent?

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Arsene Wenger confirmed last night to shareholders that there will be money to spend during the summer if he needs it. Wenger’s usual policy of signing prospects over experience has been questioned in the past but the signing of Andrei Arshavin in January went ‘against the grain’.

Arsenal 3 – 0 Newcastle

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Arsenal are back! Saturday saw Arsenal taking on Newcastle at the Emirates, putting in a stunning performance and thrashing Newcastle 3-0.
Right from the start of the game Arsenal were rolling the ball about the pitch fluently and creating chances at will. Van Persie scored early on from the penalty spot, adding another goal and Denilson scored his first league goal for Arsenal too.
We really had Newcastle rattled and well, it could have been a lot more than 3 goals but for an excellent performance from the Newcastle keeper Given.

This was the Arsenal team :

Almunia,
Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy
Eboue, Fabregas, Denilson, Nasri
Adebayor,  van Persie

It seems that Walcott had a bit of a knock and was kept off by Wenger as a precaution, but did come on later as a sub.
Arsenal really put in amazing performance that will do a lot to silence a few of the critics that we always seem to have at the start of the season. Even Denilson, who I had previously said did not seem ready for premiership matches put in a great performance. I’m still not sure he is ready to play the whole season in centre midfield but I have to acknowledge he was excellent. Denilson, along with Cesc, who is getting back to his best, Nasri and Eboue, was rampant, fast passing, great strength and movement, leaving a shoddy Newcastle for dead.  Nasri hasn’t really had a bad game for Arsenal yet, he looks a great signing, he has come straight into the team and shown his skill and dedication.
Next Saturday sees Arsenal travel to Blackburn, but we could have some interesting news to report before then as it is transfer deadline day. Rest assured, if Wenger gets out his fat wallet you will be the first to know!
